CACC and JSU Expand Opportunities for Students to Continue Their Education

Alexander City, Ala. — Students at Central Alabama Community College (CACC) will benefit from expanded transfer opportunities and scholarship support under a new Memorandum of Understanding signed with Jacksonville State University (JSU).

The agreement strengthens the partnership between the two institutions with a shared focus on providing CACC students affordable pathways to a four-year degree at Jacksonville State University. It prioritizes the transfer of academic credits and simplified enrollment processes.

A major benefit for CACC students is the continuation of JSU’s Transfer Merit Based Scholarships. Since Fall 2025, JSU has awarded the Presidential Transfer Leadership Scholarship to one outstanding transfer student from each of its Alabama Community College System (ACCS) partners, including CACC. This competitive full-tuition scholarship is renewable for one additional year (up to four semesters total), covers tuition only, and replaces any previously awarded academic merit scholarships. Recipients are selected by faculty and staff of CACC.

“We are very excited about this collaboration. It is designed first and foremost with our students in mind,” said CACC President Jeff Lynn. “It expands financial support and creates clearer routes for CACC students who want to continue their education at Jacksonville State University.”

Leaders from both institutions met on September 29 to discuss opportunities to strengthen collaboration and improve transfer pathways. The conversation focused on aligning efforts to support an easy transition and promote student success for transfers.

“This partnership is especially meaningful to me because Central Alabama is where I started my own college journey,” said Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr., president of Jacksonville State University. “We want CACC students to know that when they’re ready to take the next step, Jax State is here to help make that transition as seamless as possible. This agreement gives us a foundation to work together, identify new opportunities for our students and help them continue their education and achieve their goals.”

This new agreement underscores both institutions’ dedication to increasing access, affordability, and success for transfer students across Alabama.
