Central Alabama Community College, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, and National Fitness Campaign provide free fitness for everyone in Alexander City
(Alexander City, ALABAMA - July 18, 2025) — Central Alabama Community College, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) hosted a groundbreaking today for an outdoor Fitness Court® and digital wellness program at CACC.
This Fitness Court® is developed by CACC, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, and National Fitness Campaign to expand free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities across the region. The project is also made possible through a financial partnership with the City of Alexander City and Tallapoosa County, highlighting the shared commitment to community health and wellness. The Fitness Court® is the world’s best outdoor gym, designed to let users leverage their body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations.
“Partnerships are what make projects like this come to life. Working with Jeff Lynn and Central Alabama Community College, along with Steve Robinson and the Chamber, made it all possible,” said Alexander City mayor Woody Baird. “Coming together to promote initiatives in our community is imperative. This project is a win for Alexander City. Anytime we can support health, community involvement, and education in one space, it’s worth celebrating.”
Created for adults of all abilities aged 14+, the Fitness Court® workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users may also download the free Fitness Court® App which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience. CACC is one of 20+ Campaign Partners building a network of Fitness Courts across the state, with the help of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.
“This project is another way we’re working to support both education and community health,” said CACC President Jeff Lynn. “We want our campuses to be places that encourage wellness, connection, and opportunity. This partnership gives our students and local residents a new resource they can use every day.”
“It’s always good to see investment in both people and place,” stated Tallapoosa County Commissioner Steve Robinson. “This will be something that benefits every generation, and it shows what happens when local leaders work together to create access and opportunity for the community. Wellness matters.”
“We continue to focus on providing Alabamians access to the resources they need so they can live the healthiest lives possible,” said Sophie Martin, director of corporate communications and community relations, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. “We are privileged to partner with Central Alabama Community College to bring our Blue Cross sponsored Fitness Courts to Alabama. It is our hope that this dynamic platform will provide CACC residents and the community an innovative avenue to get healthier.”
“We are excited to have CACC join us in the journey to improve health and wellness as we work to make a powerful and long lasting impact on health outcomes and happiness by building healthy communities across America,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “The addition of the outdoor Fitness Court, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within the Alexander City community.”
